What you see to the right is what I bring for any backpacking/tourist trip from anywhere between 2 weeks and 2 months. This got me through 1 month in Peru and 15 days in Portugal, but can easily be modified for areas in colder climates. In fact, by adding a pair of coldgear under-armour long johns, a hat, thin gloves, and 2 plastic bags around my socks, I climbed to the second snowy basecamp of Chimborazo volcano in Ecuador and was totally fine. The best part is that this bag is carry-on size, so no extra fees on the airplane. Keep in mind that this list is with women in mind, but makes a great base for anyone traveling.
I swear by packing cubes to keep you organized. Packing cubes are small zip up bags of various sizes that compartmentalize your luggage. They're great.
It all fits into 1 carry-on item.
Don't forget your camera
