I LOVE CLAY
I started doing pottery in high school, and quickly realized it gave me a state of calm similar to exercising. It's meditative to watch your work twirl around on the wheel as you give it shape. I made the ones above when I was 17, thanks to the teachings of pottery guru Kreg Owens. I took a few years off as University became my central focus, before returning to it during an au-pairing stint in France, where I worked with a potter in Trebeurden when I had spare time. When I started at McGill, I decided to take another pottery class with Mahmoud Baghaeian (another pottery guru), and spent about 6 hours a week in the studio getting better at the wheel. That's where I did the blue set below. I don't sell my pieces, partially because each piece is unique and I'd rather keep exploring what's possible than making sets of the same. Plus I have some learning to go. We'll see where that leads me next.
