Filmmaking Paths

Woodbury’s Filmmaking programs empower students to hone their critical, creative, and professional talents by advancing knowledge in the history, industry, and practice of film production. At Woodbury, we cultivate a collaborative environment where students can develop their stories, express their ideas, and master the new technologies that will help them succeed in the entertainment industry.

Which Path is Right for You?

Our two filmmaking programs emphasize film as both an art form (BFA) and an industry (BA).  Our advantageous location in Burbank, just a few miles from many of the major studios, means that our students learn from faculty who are both scholars and industry practitioners. Students in both paths have ample opportunity to take advantage of local resources, develop industry connections, and find nearby employment when they graduate.

Similarities

The BA and BFA in Filmmaking share a common foundation over the first two years of study. All students receive a broad introduction to the concepts, tools, and techniques of filmmaking via instruction in the building blocks of film production, the industrial processes of the entertainment industry, and the history of moving images.

Courses during the first two years of study represent a mix of lecture, studio, and lab-based classes with film screenings, representing our emphasis on small class sizes and in-person, practice-based learning.
