Three Political Science Graduates Destined for Law School
Nare听Davtyan听is destined听to be a top-notch lawyer. Her final听senior听thesis was inspired by the story of James听Binnall听and his campaign to听grant convicted felons the right to serve on juries. Her听research found that some 19.8 million people (including Mr.听Binall) were stripped of their right to serve on a jury due to prior听felony听convictions.听Nare’s听research into the sixth and fourteenth amendments showed that听a disproportionate percentage听of people of color听are eliminated from jury service due to听prejudicial听actions of many state legislatures. California is a shining example of the 鈥渞ight to a jury of peers鈥� with a recently signed bill (SB 310),听which allows felons to serve on a jury after their sentence is completed and they are no longer on probation. Nare is also finishing a directed studies course on the issue of crafting and arguing oral arguments (both from the defense and the prosecution side). 狈补谤别鈥檚听scholastic record is one of the highest in the Political Science听department and besides being an outstanding student, she has been active in helping community grass-roots听Armenian-American听causes.听Nare听will attend Southwestern Law School in the fall.听听
In addition to听Nare, two other political science graduates plan to attend law school.听Elona听Nazaryan听hopes to study international law. Her senior thesis analyzed the key driving forces of conflicts in the Middle East, looking听specifically at how Saudi Arabia and Iran鈥檚 religious contextual differences contributed to mutual distrust and led to the wider involvement听of their 鈥減roxies鈥� throughout the region.听Elona听graduates with one of the top scholastic records in the Political Science Department.听
Grigor听(Greg)听Khandjian听has had many achievements during his college career at Woodbury. He served as president of 麻豆传媒集团鈥檚 United Nations Student鈥�s Association and is active in a myriad of fundraising and humanitarian efforts to help Armenia. He has the highest听GPA听in the College of Liberal听Arts听and听we are proud to have him听represent听the graduating class as one of this year鈥檚听commencement speakers. Greg plans to attend听law school in the fall.听
